Blurb:
The truth has no place in a courtroom. The truth doesn’t matter in a trial.
The only thing that matters is what the prosecution can prove.
Eddie Flynn used to be a con artist. Then he became a lawyer. Turned out the two weren’t that different.
It’s been over a year since Eddie vowed never to set foot in a courtroom again. But now he doesn’t have a choice. Olek Volchek, the infamous head of the Russian mafia in New York, has strapped a bomb to Eddie’s back and kidnapped his ten-year-old daughter Amy.
Eddie only has 48 hours to defend Volchek in an impossible murder trial – and win – if wants to save his daughter.
Under the scrutiny of the media and the FBI, Eddie must use his razor-sharp wit and every con-artist trick in the book to defend his ‘client’ and ensure Amy’s safety. With the timer on his back ticking away, can Eddie convince the jury of the impossible?
Lose this case and he loses everything.
Review:
My first venture into the Eddie Flynn series as part of a buddy read, and I can already see why so many people rave about these books.
I’ll admit, the opening chapters felt a little slow for me. They spend time building Eddie’s backstory and setting the scene, and I wasn’t immediately hooked. But once I reached Day 2 of our reading schedule, everything changed. From that point on, I was completely invested and flew through the pages.
Eddie Flynn is such a compelling protagonist. His quick thinking, sharp instincts, and ability to stay one step ahead make him impossible not to root for. What I loved most, though, was seeing the more human side of him, the trust and loyalty he places in the very small circle of people who truly know who he is beneath the lawyer and former conman façade.
The courtroom drama, high stakes, and constant twists kept me guessing throughout. Steve Cavanagh knows exactly how to build tension and make “just one more chapter” impossible to resist.
If this is what Book 1 delivers, I can’t wait to continue the series with the buddy read group. Safe to say I’m fully on board for Eddie Flynn’s journey now.
